Visitors and turnover were again slightly down on both the Riviera and the region for August as we feared they might be from last months data (visitors were -4% for the ER and the region and turnover -3% for the ER and -2% for the region). The decreases are again supported by business comments and occupancy data and the trend seen across most of the year has continued into the peak season. We have now updated your forecast data for the year which currently estimates -3% for trips and -1% for spend but this assumes a stable end to the year.
At a national level we are not alone in performance terms with the latest year to date national data showing a similar picture for both domestic staying and day visits. GBTS data to end of June shows similar levels of visitor trips but crucially visitor nights are 5% down on the same period in 2018 confirming reducing durations and day visits data to August also shows trips as 3% down. Overseas data to June shows trips as 1% down but there is no visitor nights data available yet.
Reassuringly we are currently mirroring national average visitor trends that includes city data as well.
