Once again, a slightly less positive month for ER businesses with decreases in both visitors (-6.76%) and turnover (-4.13%) reported despite the mini heatwave experienced during the middle of the month, however, this came after a very unsettled spell of very wet weather beforehand coupled with low pressure and heavy rainfall for the last few days of the month. The region also saw decreases but on a slightly smaller scale (-2.07% visitors and -1.30% turnover).
Looking ahead, the outlook for July appears to have stabilized whilst the main summer season appears to be worse than anticipated last month, although this could change by the time the actual performance data is collected. The current spell of poor weather being experienced however could of course impact on performance as well.
Overall the data collected through the survey to date currently suggests that business levels for the ER are likely to be slightly down on 2016 although performance in July, August and September could turn this around and will be crucial in determining the final outcome for 2017.
