A total of 79 responses were recorded for March 2019, 19 responses fewer than was achieved for the March 2018 survey. As expected, due to the timing of Easter in the two years, there were decreases reported in visitor numbers although turnover remained broadly similar to March 2018.
Key points to note:
- March visitors for the English Riviera compared to last year are estimated at -4% compared to -5% for the SW region with turnover on the Riviera estimated at +1%, compared to -2% for the region.
- The outlook for April looks much more positive than last month and we would expect to see better still when the actual data is collected for the month due to the good weather. May outlook is at present mixed with the majority of businesses saying bookings are currently not as good as 2018. However, reports of last minute bookings are frequent at the moment so this could change considerably yet and impacted further with weather forecasts.
- Optimism increased again for the second month running and by some margin (6.49 compared to 6.18 last month).
