Performance Monitor – November 2017

In contrast to the last few months November has seen ER businesses reporting increases in both their visitors (+2.50%) and turnover (+2.33%) compared with the same time last year, compared with increases for the region as a whole of +3.51% and +4.78% for visitors and turnover respectively.

Looking ahead, the outlook for December and January appears to be relatively stable with 55% and 62% of businesses respectively anticipating increased or level performance at the current time compared with the same time last year, although these could both change of course by the time the actual performance data is collected.

Provided December performance remains relatively stable our estimates that visitors and turnover are likely to be slightly down by 2-3% compared with 2016 remain unchanged based on the businesses responding to this survey to date.

Business optimism decreased very slightly and was calculated at 6.17, compared with 6.20 last month and 6.37 for the region as a whole.  Details of month on month change are included in your trends report.

A total sample of 41 this month (76% of whom were open for the month – 31 businesses).
